Can you introduce yourself in 2 lines ?
Hi, I am Avemarianne, I come from the south of Italy and I think that going to the club is a little bit like going to church.
• 3 words that describe you ?
Statuesque siren jukebox.
• Is there a moment in time that felt like a liberating moment for you?
The first time listening to a core record/track. In my case: Discipline by King Crimson, Echoes by Pink Floyd, In Decay by Com Truise or anything from Grouper.
• Do you have a place you love returning to ?
There’s this place in Calabria called Cavinia. It’s basically rocks and caves sweeping down to the sea. That’s where I feel rich deep inside my soul. There lies my peace.
• Who’s your favorite writer?
Enzo Moscato and Nietzsche.The reason I love the first one is because I am fascinated by his love for Naples and the way he described it, while the reason for the second one is because he taught us to believe in the unconventional and to do it in great style.
• You studied philosophy, is there a philosophical movement you feel particularly close to?
I loved the deconstructionist work of Jacques Derrida on metaphysics and his act of surrender completely to the "Voice in the corridors", now decided to "replace the splendor of presence".
• Can you talk about one of the songs you wrote that feels special to you
Fantasì is my favorite daughter. It's about a cycle of desire that never ends and when it finally does, it flows in violence. It represents the vehemence with which obsession appears in our lives, often confusing itself with love or passion.
I dedicate it to those who cannot make peace with desire.
• Our slogan is - The Universal Purpose Of Desire” - what is a desire that acts like a powerful force in your life ?
The desire for freedom is predominant in my life, where by freedom I mean pure expression of self. It means being able to accept both the instincts and the limits. I believe it is a process that does not only concern the self but also has to do with a network of people, our community. There can be no expression if there is no visibility and there is no visibility if there is no Other.
• Does your sexuality play an important role in your inspiration?
Yes, everything is about Eros. Thanatos is the evil one. Bad Boy Thanatos!
• You have a very beautiful tattoo on your chest. Does it have a particular meaning for you?
Thank you sm.. It is a hydra and for me it represents betrayal. In the myth of Hercules, the hydra is a monster who fights for different reasons, born from the betrayal of Zeus against Era and from which Hercules was born, unleashing the wrath of the sovereign of Olympus. It serves to remind me that anger is dampening. The version I tattooed on my chest is a revisitation of a tile that I found at Palazzo Como in Naples.
• Is there something you’re excited for in the future?
I can’t wait to share the tracks I’ve written, recorded and co-produced over the last year. I’ve been creating a lot lately: some songs with a more purely electronic and mystical taste, while others more oriented towards r&b and urban style. What always accompanies me is an obsession with the Neapolitan language in all its variations, an obsession that sometimes turns towards a pure quest for phoneme, where meaning is lost in order to leave room for the feeling.
Also, I’m absolutely excited for the beginning of the cycle of events that I am organizing together with korybass collective and Vesuvius Soul Records, in the heart of Naples. We will dance, listen to music and talk about the experiences of musicians from a queer/alternative perspective.
