But - Did you know that in some parts of Sweden, Midsummer is celebrated for several days, not just on Midsummer Eve? 🌸
In Sweden, Midsummer is one of the most important holidays of the year, second only to Christmas. It typically marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and the celebration is steeped in tradition and cultural significance. While Midsummer Eve, or "Midsommarafton," is the main event and falls on the Friday between June 19 and June 25, the festivities often extend over several days.
The celebrations usually begin on Midsummer Eve with the raising of the maypole, or "midsommarstång," which is decorated with flowers and greenery. People gather to dance traditional dances around the maypole, sing folk songs, and partake in various games and activities. The evening is filled with feasting on a smorgasbord of traditional foods, such as pickled herring, boiled new potatoes with dill, sour cream, and chives, gravlax, and strawberries with cream for dessert.
Midsummer Day, "Midsommardagen," which follows Midsummer Eve, is also a public holiday in Sweden, and the festivities often continue with more relaxed gatherings, family activities, and outdoor adventures. In some regions, the celebrations can last for several days, as people take advantage of the long daylight hours to enjoy the outdoors, visit summer cottages, and participate in various local events and fairs.
The extended celebration of Midsummer reflects the Swedes' deep connection to nature and their appreciation of the brief but beautiful summer season. It's a time for families and communities to come together, celebrate life, and embrace the light and warmth of the summer sun.
I've always had a deep interest in wildlife and nature. I can spend hours, if not days, on a porch, balcony, or patio, just staring, listening, and taking in the scents. You know that moment when summer rain hits hot asphalt? I love that scent. Or watching swallows flying in and out on a warm summer night—yep, that brings back memories. Or watching the fireflies glow at night. Amazing. And listening to the cicadas, I actually love that sound, even though I know many people don't 😂
It's important to just be in the moment, forget about all the to-do lists, and enjoy life. Be present, have another cup of coffee, and don't rush. Enjoy your weekend ☕️✨.

Tomorrow, Friday, Swedes will celebrate Midsommar, the summer solstice. And it is my favorite holiday! But why do we celebrate Midsommar? 🌸
Swedish Midsommar (Midsummer) is one of the most significant holidays in Sweden, celebrated around the summer solstice, typically on a Friday between June 19 and June 25.
Midsommar celebrations actually have ancient origins, dating back to pre-Christian times. It is a celebration of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, which has been associated with fertility and the power of the sun.
Midsommarafton, or Midsummer Eve, is the main day of celebration. It usually involves family gatherings, outdoor activities, and feasting.
Midsommarstången, or the May Pole, is a central element of the celebration, a tall pole decorated with flowers and greenery. People dance around the maypole, performing traditional dances and singing songs.
Wearing flower crowns made of wildflowers is a common tradition, especially among women and children.
Traditional foods include pickled herring, new potatoes with fresh dill, sour cream, chives, and various grilled meats is a must during the feast. Strawberries and cream are often served as a dessert. Drinking schnapps and singing drinking songs, Snapsvisor, are also integral parts of the festivities.

My face when I'm thinking about food... especially after a couple of hours on an empty stomach, early in the morning, walking around the almost empty city streets to catch that beautiful morning light. Breakfast and coffee almost always taste so much better and it's almost like a rewarding feeling 😋📸

Throwback to an amazing New York City trip last year. Can't wait to go back when it's not freezing outside, this was in February. And I am still thinking about these Dim Sum... so dang delicious! 😋
Any suggestions on where to go, where to eat or what to see for my next time visiting this pulsating city?
Not sure where to photograph some fun animals? Most of the time (like where I am in the first photo) I go to parks, National Forests, hiking & wildlife trails etc.. But the other day I went to a zoo to practice! So much fun, but.. I hope I'll get the opportunity to photograph gorilla's in the wild one day 🦍😁📸
