We eat Japanese-style pancake with sweet and savory sauce similar to Worcestershire sauce. Monjayaki is made from flour, mixed with water or worcester sauce with various ingredients and grill them together. Fillings for monjayaki are cabbage, dried small shrimp, red pickled ginger and so on. The ingredients of monjayaki are similar to that of okonomiyaki. Monjayaki does not harden to that of a pancake texture because more soup is added to it. You can imagine that monjayaki is a watery version of okonomiyaki. Of course, it’s not tasteless. Once the mixture of monja becomes pastry and slightly scorched on grill plate, we scoop it up with a small spatula.
